We will identify a model for collaboration using a framework of Gentle Teaching. One could possibly use this framework as a design for an individual’s plan for the future as a valued, community member.
Four pillars (life-lessons) comprise a framework of Gentle Teaching: safe, loved, loving, and engaged. Like a weaving loom, this framework generates value and meaning that is learned through the interactions (weaving) of relationship-building. The learning process cultivates experiences of healthy social/emotional development.
Creating meaningful moments and cultivating social awareness is integral to the application of this framework. Sometimes it is challenging, especially during times when extrinsic worth is the focus—- to control one’s learning and requiring them to be in a state of helplessness (the opposite of self-determination). We will discuss this, and how Gentle Teaching cultivates our own awareness and learning of who this other person is, and supporting their choices.
The presenter will discuss a Snoezelen/MSE theoretical framework based on Gentle Teaching, and Snoezelen’s assessment tools to develop a quality of life plan that can be utilized in and outside of the Snoezelen/MSE room. The underlying premise is that unconditional love is necessary to build new moral memories as we create a true sense of companionship and community with one to engage in and outside of the “room.”
The training webinars will be presented at two different times: 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EDT.
